Fugitive arrested on gun charges during Salisbury traffic stop

A Salisbury man is behind bars, after law enforcement says they found a handgun during a traffic stop.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says on Saturday, around 9:25 PM, a Deputy stopped a vehicle on Route 13 for speeding. During the stop, the Deputy reportedly found that one of the passengers, 20-year-old Ramear Wheatley, was a wanted fugitive. Wheatley had apparently been wanted on an assault warrant since 2013.

Wheatley was taken into custody, during which Deputies say they found a blue bag on the floor in front of him, with a .380 semi-automatic handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

Wheatley was charged with handgun on person, handgun in vehicle, possession of handgun by a minor, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, illegal possession of ammunition. He was ordered to be held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on a $45,000 bond for Saturday’s charges, along with an additional $15,000 on the arrest warrant.
