Environmental impact report shows no major issues after failed Antares rocket launch

A final report has been released on the environmental impact of the failed Antares rocket launch last fall. It finds no major issues, but makes a few recommendations moving forward.

According to the Virginia Commercial Space Flight Authority, samples were taken of the air, sediment, soil and surface water.

The areas around the impact crater itself had certain chemicals related to rocket fuel that could affect workers, but the levels have significantly decreased.

The group is recommending plans for a groundwater study and to continue to monitor groundwater periodically, to make sure the chemical levels continue to fall as expected.

Officials say there is no further action needed for air monitoring.
