DSU students and staff “walk at lunch” around campus

Delaware State University students and staff hit the pavement on Wednesday as a part of a national movement.

In honor of National Walk at Lunch Day, the group walked for about a mile on campus. Walkers got to partake in prize drawings and receive a banana.

The event was a part of the school’s “Healthy Hornet” movement. Organizers say that walking is an easy way to promote activity.

“Taking 15 to 20 minutes out of your day is effective in helping you get regular physical activity,” says Marianne Carter, director of the Delaware Center for Health Promotion at DSU. “You feel better, you’ll learn better, you’ll have more energy.”

The national movement reportedly began as a way to improve personal health and work towards decreasing the costs of healthcare for employers and employees.
