DSP seize more than 6,900 bags of heroin during Smyrna traffic stop

A traffic stop in Smyrna on Wednesday, reportedly led to the discovery of nearly 7000 bags of heroin.

Delaware State Police say on Wednesday, around 10:50 PM, a Trooper on patrol on Route 1, near exit 114, noticed a Honda Odyssey speeding. The Trooper then reportedly pulled the vehicle over, and started speaking with the driver, 31-year-old Victor Mota Garcia, of Philadelphia. During the stop, Police say the Trooper noticed ammunition on the floor of the vehicle.

Mota Garcia apparently didn’t have a valid driver’s license, but gave the Trooper a Dominican identification card. Police say they then searched the vehicle, which revealed over 6900 bags of heroin, and over $56,000 in suspected drug sale proceeds, along with two handguns that were in the spare tire compartment of the vehicle.

The driver was then arrested, and charged with two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possess a controlled substance in a tier 5 quantity, manufactures, delivers, or possess with the intent to manufacture, deliver a controlled substance, possession of a weapon with a removed, obliterated or altered serial number, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving without a valid license, and speeding.

Mota Garcia is now behind bars on a James T. Vaughn Correctional Institution on a $171,002.00 cash bail.
