DNA links Federalsburg man to string of spring 2014 thefts in Easton

A Federalsburg man is behind bars, after his DNA was apparently found during an investigation into several thefts from vehicles.
Easton Police say in the spring of 2014, they investigated several incidents of purse thefts from vehicles parked at the North Easton Sports Complex in Easton. Officers say they responded to the complex on April 27th, May 3rd, and May 31st, and found in all three incidents that a vehicle window was broken, and a purse with credit cards inside stolen.
In the first and third incidents the credit cards were apparently later used at Kmart in Queen Anne’s County. After the second incident, one of the two purses that were taken from the complex, was reportedly found on the Queen Anne’s County trail in Kent Island.
Police say during their investigation, DNA was recovered from one of the scenes, which led to the April 1st, 2015 arrest of 45-year-old Oliver Lopez. He was charged with seventeen counts of theft, theft scheme, malicious destruction of property, and credit card theft.
Lopez is currently in the custody of the Maryland Department of Corrections on a $10,000 bond.
