Delmar Shuts Out Mardela Through Five Innings

The Delmar High School softball team and Mardela faced off in a big Maryland-Delaware matchup Friday afternoon, with the Wildcats proving better in a 16-0 shutout through five innings. Delmar improves to 9-2 for the season, while the Warriors fall to 12-2.
This one was controlled from start to end by the Wildcats, jumping out to a 5-0 lead through the first two innings. The third inning put the game away for Delmar, scoring 10 more runs, including a base-clearing single by Savannah Brown.
Brown had six RBIs for the game, along with two runs scored.
Mardela was able to slow down the hot bats of Delmar in the final two innings of the game, only giving up one run, but the Wildcats’ defense was just as good as their offense, not allowing a single run for the game. Alexis Layton pitched a complete game for Delmar, recording the shutout.
The Wildcats remain at home for their next game hosting Caesar Rodney on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m., while Mardela stays on the road at Parkside on Monday at 4 p.m.
