Decatur Girls Lax Impress In Win Over Cape

The Stephen Decatur girls lacrosse team pulled off their second straight impressive victory Monday when they defeated Cape Henlopen 15-9. The win improves the Seahawks to 7-0, while the loss drops the Vikings to 6-2.

The Teams would be in a battle early on. Payton VanKirk would find Blair Yesko early on to give the Seahawks the first lead of the game. Sarah Tappan would then put on a show for Cape to keep them tight in the first half. Payton and Ally Beck would both add goals for Decatur, but they would be offset by 2 more goals from Tappan. The Seahawks would then score 3 straight goals, highlighted by a great play from Yesko, coming up with a steal from the keeper, then beating her with a low bouncing shot. Decatur would be up 7-5 late in the first half before Jillian Petito would come up with a great save to start a break, slinging it to Beck at mid field, who would then find Yesko for a score with 1.5 second left in the half. Decatur would then go on to stretch the lead to 5 in the second half as they would hold on for the win. Yesko led the Seahawks with 5 goals on 6 shots, and 3 assists. Payton finished with 4 goals and an assist while Victoria Kerkovich would add 4 goals and 3 assists. Tappan would finish with a game high 7 goals.

Decatur returns to the field Wednesday when they host Cambridge South Dorchester, while Cape host Worcester Prep on Wednesday.
