DE Congressman’s son named in wrongful death lawsuit

The son of Delaware Congressman John Carney has been named in a wrongful death suit after a hazing incident at Clemson University.
The lawsuit says that Samuel Carney, who is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon at Clemson, helped organize a fraternity run back in September, which resulted in the death of Clemson student Tucker Hipps.
Apparently during the run, Hipps went over a bridge and into a shallow lake. Hipss was later found dead and according to the lawsuit executed by Hipps’ parents, Samuel Carney did not attempt to locate Hipps or see if he was alright after he went into the water.
47 ABC reached out to Congressman Carney’s office and he and his wife replied with the following statement.
“No one, certainly no parent, can feel anything but sympathy for this family’s grief and anger. We have faith that those trusted with investigative and legal authority will act based on facts. Our advice to Sam since the tragedy in September has been to tell the truth and remember that any detail might help. That continues to be our message to him.”
Due to school policy, Clemson University did not comment on the Hipps lawsuit.
