Cape Topples Decatur In Delaware-Maryland Matchup

The Cape Henlopen High School boy’s lacrosse team played host to Stephen Decatur in a big matchup between two states, and the Vikings proved better Monday night battling to a 9-6 victory. Cape improves to 7-2 for the season, while the Seahawks slip to 5-2.
It was a battle back-and-forth in this one, seeing Decatur find the back of the net first off a Jake Lathroum low finish. The Vikings didn’t shy away, as Jacob Brown and Brock Malooniam added contributions to keep the game close.
The goal scoring kept coming before half, including a behind-the-back finish by Corey Gwin to give the Seahawks a 3-2 lead with under a minute remaining. But that didn’t shock Cape, scoring with 4 seconds remaining to take a 3-3 score into the break.
The second half played into favor of the Vikings, eventually taking a 9-6 decision behind Michael Hopkins, who finished with three goals and two assists.
Christopher Argo commanded the net for Cape turning away 10 shots, while Decatur’s Will Hastings made six saves.
The Vikings now head on the road for a two games with the first stop on Saturday at noon against Archmere Academy. The Seahawks will remain on the road, as they take on Cambridge on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
