Bus fire scare for students at East Millsboro Elementary

Delaware State Police say a bus caught fire early Monday morning in Millsboro, while carrying students to school.
Reports say the incident happened around 6:45 AM, when an East Millsboro Elementary school bus came to stop a on Carey’s Camp Road. Police say while the 41-year-old female bus driver was driving, the engine just shut down. That’s when she reportedly saw and smelled smoke and flames coming from the front of the, 2004 International School Bus.
She and two children, an 11-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy, safely exited the back of the bus through the emergency exit, and ran to a nearby house where they reportedly called 9-1-1.
Police believe a mechanical issue is to blame for the blaze.
Officials say roadways are currently closed on Carey’s Camp road, between Millsboro Highway and Phillips Hill Road while crews clean the debris.
