Brown’s Heroics Lift Delmar To Shocking Win Over Laurel

The Delmar softball team pulled off an amazing comeback, capped off by a 3-run home run by Savannah Brown with 2 outs in the 7th to defeat Laurel 8-7 Thursday afternoon. The win improves the Wildcats to 5-1, while the loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-1.

The Bulldogs would strike first. Regan Green would strike out all three batters in the top of the first, then help her own cause with a three run bomb to left in the bottom of the frame. Laurel would then stretch their lead to 4-0 after a sacrifice sly from Lexie Ullman. The ‘Cats would fight back though. Savannah Brown would drill one for a RBI base knock to get her team on the board in the top of the 4th. Then Haley Rodgers would get her team within two after she beat out a throw for an infield RBI single. Then Delmar would get within a run after Rachel Davis slapped a RBI double to left. Incredibly, the Wildcats weren’t done yet as they would then take the lead after Selby Murphy would blast a 2 run shot to center.

The Dawgs though would respond. Natalie Culver hit a grounder to second with 2 on and the throw to first would sail over the first baseman’s head, allowing for 2 runs to come in. Laurel would then stretch their lead to 7-5 after Marissa Walls hit a line drive up the third base line. Laurel would head to the top of the 7th with the lead, but this time it was the Wildcats turn to fight back. After two straight outs, Riddle would single to keep the game going, and bring the tying run to the plate. Shelby Murphy would then single to left to bring the go-ahead run to the plate. Savannah Brown would then do the incredible, as she lifted a 3-run jack to center to put Delmar out in front. Laurel would have three outs but couldn’t get anything going in the bottom of the frame as Delmar would hold on for the win.

Laurel returns to action Saturday when they travel to Northern, while Delmar travels to Indian River on Saturday.
