Berlin church holds third annual memorial 5k

Nearly three hundred people filled the parking lot of the Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Berlin for the third annual Memorial 5k. 47 ABC’s Jobina Fortson served as their emcee.

The run was held in an effort for community members to honor their loved ones who have lost their lives.

The runners heard inspiring words from the church’s pastor and Berlin Mayor Gee Williams about maintaining a strong and supportive community in Berlin.

The coordinator of the 5k tells 47 ABC they chose an active theme to honor their loved ones for a very specific reason.

Ashley Forman goes on, “A lot of our loved ones especially in this church died of diabetes or heart disease and things like that. I thought the best way to pay tribute to that is the fact that we’ve gathered to do something healthy.”

Members of the church tell 47 ABC the 5k has gotten bigger and bigger since it’s first year. They plan to hold the run again next year. They say anyone is welcome to join.
