Baker, Roadrunners speed past Skipjacks

Milford native CJ Baker went 2-4 and drove in 3 runs in the Roadrunners’ 8-4 win over Chesapeake College of Wye Mills, MD, on Wednesday afternoon.

The Skipjacks broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the fourth when a Corey Helmer single scored Jeff Tabares. The one run lead lasted less than a half of an inning, because in the bottom half of the fourth, Baker would begin his tear. The Polytech graduate would hit a seeing-eye-single perfectly placed in between the shortstop and third baseman into left, to score Wes Whitlock and Ken Arminger.

In the top of the fifth, with a runner on second, Nathan Poore struck out Skipjack’s catcher Tabares on a crucial 3-2 pitch, to conserve the lead. Arminger and Traevian Wilson would add RBI’s as insurance late, securing a Roadrunners win.
