America’s former Coolest Small Town opens the door for a new hotel

America’s former “Coolest Small Town” has a potential hotel project in the works.
Berlin leaders recently voted to rezone an area on the corner of North Main Street and U.S. 50 for a new hotel.
A developer, Cobblestone Hotels, approached town leaders about the opportunity last year, and the rezoning vote ensures that the area is ready to go.
Their goal is for a mid-size building that could have about forty to fifty units.
“It could have a number of uses. For people who end up at the hospital and their family wants to be with them, many of those folks are from out of the area,” says Mayor Gee Williams. “Berlin is on the move and quite frankly I think the best is yet to come.”
The town is open to all companies that want to submit a site plan to the Planning and Zoning Committee. Mayor Williams says the town hopes to break ground on the project within a year.
