Worcester Co. parents file complaint to remove Stephen Decatur HS wrestling coach

A group of irate Worcester County parents want the school district to get rid of Stephen Decatur High School’s wrestling coach.
Thomas Maronick Jr., an attorney representing the group, says the parents of a sophomore, junior and senior wrestlers filed a complaint and submitted it to the Worcester County Superintendent of Schools after their kids were kicked off the team for “smelling like marijuana” back in January.
According to Maronick, they want Coach Todd Martinek removed and a public apology.
The school reportedly completed an investigation that Maronick says found no evidence of drug use. While the high school’s principal allowed the students to join the team again, he says the parents feel, the damage has already been done.
“It’s very unfortunate because what has been alleged is completely unsubstantiated unproven and inaccurate,” he says. “Every single day that goes by, these students continue to suffer because of rumors and allegations that are being spread throughout the school.”
47 ABC reached out to a spokeswoman for Worcester County Public Schools about the incident. She says they cannot release the investigation records unless the parents involved sign a release form.
As of now, Maronick says the school is not honoring the parents requests. However, he would not say if the parents will be pursuing further legal action.
