With another storm underway, Wicomico Co. anticipates major pot hole repairs

Once the roadways are clear of snow and ice, the work is far from over for local road crews.

According to the Superintendent of Roads in Wicomico County, Lee Outten, so far this season, they have only responded to minimal pot holes because of the weather.

However, because of the cold temperatures, they only use a temporary repair, what they call a “cold patch,” for the time being. Therefore, after tonight’s storm, when the temperatures warm up, he says they expect the pot holes to become an issue.

“When water penetrates the road surface it will crack and it freezes and expands and of course that’s when it causes the road to pop and it creates a pothole eventually,” he says. “If you have a pot hole and someone doesn’t it see it, especially at nighttime, and they hit it, it can cause their tire to blow out.”

The Roads Division is asking any drivers who come across a pothole to report it by calling 410-548-4872.
