Wicomico County road salt is dwindling

Wicomico County Public Works Roads Division says the salt supply for Wicomico residents is dwindling.

47 ABC spoke with Roads Superintendent Lee Outten, who says salt is being rationed at this point in time because this year the needs have surpassed demand.

Outten says this is an issue for the whole state, since this year’s salt supplier might have ordered too little supply.

“We know that it’s a possibility we’ll get another event, so we’re going to be careful where we’ll apply it,” Outten says. “Our salt supply is fairly low, it’s certainly lower than we like to see it right now. We have orders placed that are back logged and I don’t see us receiving any new orders anytime soon.”

Outten says the salt may not have helped in Thursday’s winter storm, as laying out salt in such drastic temperature drops is not always effective.
