UPDATE: Dorchester church fire still under investigation

The cause of a church building fire in Dorchester County, is still being investigated.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire started around 10:45 PM on Wednesday night, at the Full Gospel Church of God in Christ Jesus on Academy Street, in Hurlock.

Officials say nearly 80 firefighters from Hurlock, East New Market, Federalsburg, Preston, Secretary, Eldorado Brookview, Linkwood, Vienna, Church Creek and Seaford Rescue Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the two alarm blaze, which they had under control in about an hour. Investigators say they found that the fire started on the first floor of the three story parsonage, before it spread toward the sanctuary.

Officials say there is moderate smoke damage throughout the building. The cause of the blaze is still reportedly under investigation. Damages are estimated at $300,000. There was luckily no one inside at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.
