UMES Women’s Basketball Downs NCCU

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s basketball advanced to the second round of the MEAC tournament Tuesday when they defeated North Carolina Central 67-47. The Hawks advance to play top seeded Hampton Wednesday.

UMES would open the game scoring a 3 pointer on thier first possession before going ice cold from the field. The Eagles would use a nice run to open up a 13-4 lead before the Hawks settled in. Head Coach Fred Batchelor would go o his bench and Te’Amber Burke would deliver, scoring 15 points in the first half alone to help the Hawks takes a 30-21 lead into half time. The once UMES grabbed the lead, they would pull away in the second half thanks to the hot hand of Moengaroa Subritzky. She would knock down 4 3’s in the second half alone on her way to finishing with 16 points. The lead would grow to over 20 and proved to be too much for the Eagles to overcome.
