Two men sentenced for deadly OC fight

Caleb Ochse, 28, and Christopher Kendall, 22, both of Ocean City, were sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to affray charges. 47 ABC spoke to Worcester County State’s Attorney Bill McDermott who says Kendall will spend 12 months in jail, with two years probation. Ochse, who has 10 prior convictions, was sentenced to 18 months behind bars, with four and a half years of probation after he is released. The judge sentenced both men to their maximum jail time, after a plea deal was met in January 2015.

McDermott says the courtroom took an emotional turn, as the family of the victim, Justin Cancelliere, 37, of Pennsylvania, took the stand to deliver their victim’s impact statement. Cancelliere’s wife reportedly told the courtroom her two young children still have trouble sleeping at night.

The incident took place around 3 a.m. on August 24, 2014, when Cancelliere and a group of friends apparently got into a fight with Ochse and Kendall. Ocean City Police say they found Cancelliere unconscious in the parking lot of the Plim Plaza Hotel. He later died at Atlantic General Hospital.
