Traffic stop leads police to various drugs, 4 suspects arrested

Smyrna Police have arrested four juveniles after a traffic stop led them to 226 bags of heroin and other various drugs, with a 5th suspect is still on the loose.

According to police, officers recognized the 17-year-old driver of a car traveling northbound on Delaware Street in Smyrna around 2:30 p.m. on Friday. They say they knew he did not have a license and attempted to perform a traffic stop.

The car eventually stopped near 400-block of Paul Drive in Smyrna, where the five occupants immediately exited the car and fled from officers.

Police say two of the passengers in the car, two male juveniles aged 15 and 17, were arrested by police after a brief pursuit. They during the chase, the 15-year-old discarded a large quantity of heroin and a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Authorities tell 47 ABC, the three other subjects fled on foot through the Glenwood Development, before being found with the assistance of the Delaware State Police Aviation unit. They were eventually arrested near Providence Drive and North Main Street.

Officers recovered a total of 226 bags of heroin and approximately 24 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia from inside the vehicle.

The 17-year-old juvenile male was arrested for driving without a valid license, disregarding police officers signal, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The 15 year old juvenile passenger who discarded the large quantity of heroin and the firearm was arrested for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by prohibited juvenile, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The other 15-year-old juvenile and 17-year-old juvenile were arrested possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All of the individuals are juveniles and will be presented before a Judge at the Justice of the Peace Court 7.
