Third snow storm in three weeks expected Thursday

Officials from around Delmarva are already warning residents to be safe when the snow starts on Thursday. 47 Meteorologists are calling for 3-6″ of snow accumulation in Salisbury, with higher accumulations on the Northern section of the peninsula. The storm is expected to start Wednesday late, as rain, turn to sleet, and then to a wintery mix, with snow mixed in for most of the day Thursday.

In Delaware, DelDOT Officials say they are not able to pre-treat roadways with salt, as the storm is expected to start as rain. Officials say their plan of attack will now be to have equipment pre-positioned and ready to go for when it changes from rain to freezing rain or snow. Crews in Kent County are expected to report at 2:00 AM, and 4:00 AM in Sussex. DelDOT says this late in the season, they still want to stress the importance of staying off the roads if possible during major storms and taking it slow if you must drive.

Dover Police are reminding residents that parking is not permitted on snow emergency routes, which include Division Street, Water Street, Governors Avenue, and State Street, as it can hinder snow removal. Sidewalks in the City must be cleared within 24 hours of snowfall ends. Police are also asking drivers to stay home when the snow starts to stick, and to give the plows space to work.
