SU Women’s Basketball Is Sweet 16 Bound
The Salisbury University women’s basketball team took down the Stockton Ospreys in front of the home crowd on Saturday.
Despite a rough first half on both sides of the ball, the Gulls kept it close only going down by 5 at half trailing 30-35. The second half was driven by strong defense forcing an impressive 29 turnovers. Although Sarah Seipp was not a point leader for the Gulls tonight, she did lead the team with 7 steals. Anna Hackett led SU with 21 points and 3 assists followed by Lauren Rothfeld scoring 12 points and grabbing 7 boards.
At this point, it is no surprise that the Gulls are a second half team and head coach Kelly Lewandowski explained their team like to scope out the game during the first half and make the correct adjustments during the second half. This is something the team laughs about knowing it is something they have done throughout the course of the season, but Coach Lewandowski also said they will need to play a great 40 minute game in order to win in the Sweet 16.
The Gulls pulled off a big win over Stockton to advance to the sectional semi-finals. SU will be taking on No. 12 Amherst College on Friday, March 13 – time and location will be announced later this week.
