Stolen handgun found during traffic stop in Salisbury

A traffic stop in Salisbury over the weekend led to the discovered of a stolen handgun.

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office says on Sunday, a Deputy pulled over a vehicle on East Isabella Street, driven by 21-year-old Rogelio Cervantes. According to the report, the Deputy found probable cause, and searched the vehicle, during which they found a loaded semi-automatic handgun under the driver’s seat.

The Deputy reportedly learned that Cervantes wasn’t allowed to have a firearm in his possession because of a previous drug conviction. An investigation showed that the firearm that was found during the search, was stolen during a burglary in Delaware back in 2013.

Cervantes was arrested, and charged with illegal possession of a regulated firearm, handgun in vehicle, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of a stolen regulated firearm. He was later taken for an initial appearance, and ordered to be held on $45,000 bond.
