Salisbury man fatally wounded in deputy-involved shooting has criminal history in Florida

47 ABC is learning more about the Salisbury man who was fatally wounded in a deputy-involved shooting in Maryland.

Fednel Rhinvil, 25, was shot and killed on Tuesday during an altercation with Deputy First Class Benjamin Jones. Investigators say they believe Deputy Jones pulled the trigger in self-defense.

However, it appears, this was not Rhinvil’s first interaction with police.

Court records in Collier County, Florida, show that in 2010, Rhinvil was arrested on a number of charges, including resisting an officer with violence. In 2011, he was reportedly arrested on battery charges. Court records in Maryland show that his most recent charges were in 2014 for possessing drug paraphernalia.

A Collier County news outlet also reports that when Rhinvil was 19, he shot in the face during an altercation.

A spokesman for Maryland State Police says their investigation into Tuesday’s incident is still on-going. While they are taking everything about Rhinvil’s past into account, they say they are focusing primarily on the incident from this week.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to call the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack at 410-749-3101 extension 138.
