Ringling Brothers stop in Salisbury

The combination of juggling, elephants, and clowns can only mean one thing. The Ringling Brothers are in town!
The circus has a new theme for 2015. Kelly, a clown with the Ringling Brothers explains, “We’re bringing you built to amaze this year. It’s a bit of an industrial feel. We’re building the circus right before your very eyes.”
The circus calls their presentation “The Greatest Show on Earth.” They have a Motorcycle globe where riders go around and around, inches away from each other. They go about sixty miles per- hour with a show girl standing right in the middle.
They also have motorcycle high wire that flies 20 feet over the audience. However, in addition to some newer acts, the circus always has their animals.
The circus isn’t only about the acts; the costumes are a major part of the show to give it that extra “umph.”
Kelly The Clown goes on, “Yeah well you have to look good to be the best. We’ve got an awful lot of sparkles on these things.”
The circus will even let you try them on if you come an hour before the show. In addition to the fun, the Ringling Brothers also comes with some history.
The King Charles Troupe joined the circus in 1969. It was created in the South Bronx by a man named by Jerry King.
Kaseem Alamudeen, a member of the King Charles Troupe says, “He just had an idea to get kids out of trouble in the community. He just decided to give them all unicycles.”
The troupe became the first African American group to join Ringling Brothers. There’s a little history and some fun for the whole family to enjoy at the circus.
Anyone interested in attending the circus can pick up tickets from the Wicomico County Civics Center, or get them online at ringlingbrothers.com.
