Polytech baseball holds off Indian River
The Polytech baseball team got win number one under their belt Tuesday night, defeating Indian River 10-5.
Polytech jumped out to a quick lead, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings, including a Kevin Zimmerman beam to left field in the third inning. With a 6-1 lead in the top of the fourth, Polytech starting pitcher Sean Hanhauser would get into a jam, but would get a crucial strikeout with men in scoring position.
After Hanhauser got out of the jam, it would be Poly piling on insurance. Cole Garey would rip a three RBI double in the bottom of the sixth. The four runs scored in the inning would be needed as Indian River rallied for four runs and a fifth waiting on third, before their ralley attempt was ended by Panthers 2nd baseman Chase Chasanov.
Polytech looks for win number two on Thursday as they host Laurel, while Indian River still looks for win number 1 and will host Delmar on Friday.
