Pocomoke Advance To Regional Championship

The Pocomoke boys basketball team advance to the regional championship game Saturday night after they defeated Washington 81-66. The win improves the Warriors to 18-3.

The teams would be in a battle early on with neither squad being able to grab much of a lead. Dajour Mills would get into the Jaguars defensively, forcing several turnovers and getting out into the open court for scores. At half Pocomoke would take a 39-35 lead. The Jaguars would come fighting back in the third quarter led by Marc Jones. The senior would come up with a couple steals as well as connect on a couple long balls as Washington would tie up the game. The teams continue to exchange buckets as Skaruk Cottman would find his groove, hitting on a couple mid range jumpers. Headed to the 4th, Pocomoke would still be holding onto a 53-50 lead. Within the first few minutes of the 4th, Deshawn Parks, Marc Jones and Jermir Jones all would pick up their 4th forth. The Warriors would continue to attack them, looking to draw their 5th. As Washington found themselves back 6 points, Parks would get called for his 5th off a controversial block off the backboard. Parks would argue the call, drawing two technical fouls and being ejected from the game. Mills would step to the line and connect on 4 of his 6 free throws and follow with a score from the field to stretch the lead to double digits. Washington was never able to over come the deficit.

The loss ends the brilliant careers of Washington’s five seniors, Shakur Cottman, Marc Jones, Jermir Jones, Deshawn Parks, and Jamel Armstrong.
