Outbuilding fire in Princess Anne spreads to home, causes $225k in damages

The cause of a fire that started inside of an outbuilding in Princess Anne, and spread to surrounding structures including a family home, is under investigation.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says it all started around 11:40 PM on Sunday night, when the occupant of the 20’x20′ wood framed outbuilding on Vesley Lane reported a fire. Officials say 35 firefighters from Mount Vernon, Princess Anne, and Deal Island fire departments responded, and had the one alarm blaze under control within in an hour and a half.

No injuries were reported. Damages to the 20’x20′ outbuilding are estimated at $25,000 but officials say the blaze spread from the outbuilding to a 30’x60′ pole building on the property, causing another $80,000 in damage, along the family’s home resulting in an additional $120,000 in damages.

Officials say they are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. The occupants were reportedly assisted by the American Red Cross.
