One injured during accidental house fire in Mardela Springs

A Friday morning house fire in Mardela Springs has been ruled as accidental.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire started around 7:10 AM in the a bedroom of the one story Sharptown Road home.
After the occupant discovered the blaze, 20 firefighters from Mardela, Sharptown, and Hebron Fire Departments responded, and had the flames under control in 25 minutes. One adult male was taken from the scene to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for minor smoke inhalation. He is expected to be released later Friday.
Investigators say they have ruled the fire as accidental, and found it was caused by the failure of an extension cord. Damages are estimated to total $60,000.
