One dead following fatal Somerset Co. crash

A teenager was killed and her mother critically injured when their vehicle was struck from behind Friday afternoon in Somerset County.

The multi-vehicle crash took place around 4:30 on Route 413 near Lovers Lane.

Police say 15-year-old Andrea Joyner, 15, of Crisfield was transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center (PRMC) by ambulance where she was pronounced dead.

Her Patricia Joyner, 38, of Crisfield, was transported by ambulance to PRMC before later flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

According to police, 22-year-old New Jersey man Christopher Garcia and the passenger in his Home Delivery, Inc. truck 28-year-old Romairo Shuler, 28, of Salisbury were both taken to PRMC where they were treated and released.

A third vehicle, driven by Marion woman Rosario Barrett, 73, was also involved. Barrett was transported to PRMC for treatment of what are reported to be non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates Joyner’s car and the truck driven by Garcia were both traveling northbound on Rt. 413. It appears Joyner stopped to make a left turn into a driveway, but the truck failed to stop and struck the rear of Joyner. Police say this might have pushed it into the southbound lane and into the path of the oncoming Dodge.

As of right now, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.

The Crash Team is conducting a detailed reconstruction of the crash.  Upon completion of the investigation, the report will be forwarded to the Somerset County State’s Attorney’s Office for review regarding charges to be filed.

No charges have been filed at this time.
