New changes coming to water heaters

If you’re in the market for a brand-new water heater, you might need more space for it in about three weeks.
Starting April 16th, updates to the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act will take effect. The new guidelines with the act are apparently designed to make water heaters more efficient and help conserve energy.
According to the Department of Energy, water heating can account for about twelve percent of your utility bill.
Local plumbers say consumers are concerned because this new act is changing the size of water heaters and some folks just don’t have the space for it in their home.
Master plumber Ron Fink says, “The new water heaters coming out are approximately 2 inches wider and one inch taller. That may make putting a water heater back in it’s location undoable. We may have to relocate it to a different area of the home.”
It’s important to note that this act doesn’t mean you need to change your old water heater if it’s working perfectly fine.
Also, plumbers say if you’re worried about a lack of space, you can buy an old model heater and keep it stored until the current one breaks.
