Needles found in Wicomico Co.
A disturbing trend shows needles being found in parking lots, ball fields, and some by drains near schools in Wicomico County.
The needles found are hypothermic needles, typically used for medications and drugs. The photo included in this article was found in Pittsville.
Fruitland Police say they have found nearly half a dozen similar needles within the last year. They urge residents who find any to contact authorities immediately and not touch them.
“You don’t want to touch it, because there’s a variety of different things.” Explains Lieutenant Brian Swafford. “There’s different bodily fluids and there’s bio-hazards, since it could possibly be tainted with drugs. You just don’t want to touch it.”
Lieutenant Swafford also says it’s important for people to stay until police arrive, so they can locate the needle and prevent anyone else from touching it.
