Milford police warns drivers of “wrapping” scam

The Milford Police Department is waring members of the community about a new scam in the area.

Police say the scam targets people who drive at least 200 miles a week in their personal vehicles. The “advertisement” apparently states that the person would get paid for allowing companies to use them for publicity by “wrapping” their car in advertisements.

Police then say the resident gets in touch with the company, who will send them a check. According to the report, the company then asks them to cash the check in their personal checking account, before sending them a portion of the money back. The company reportedly claims that this is used to cover the cost for the “wrapping.” The victim then apparently finds out that the check is  fake, which leads the bank to take the money from the victims personal account.

If you think you may have fallen victim to this scam, contact the Milford Police Department at 302-422-8081.
