Fast-moving fire rips through Salisbury home

What apparently started as a small fire on the stove at a home on Alabama Avenue Sunday night became much worse in a hurry.
According to Salisbury Assistant Fire Chief Bryan Records, the flames quickly spread from the kitchen, near the back of the one-story house, to the front room.
The initial call just after 8 p.m. was for an “appliance fire,” but when crews were en route, the fire was upgraded. Two more stations then arrived with backup and extra equipment.
“When they arrived at the front of the structure, about the same time, the front windows blew out with fire, and the front door, and the fire was rolling out at a pretty furious pace,” said Assistant Chief Records.
Firefighters attacked the flames from the front of the house. Half the crew ran the hoses, while the other half got the ladder up and hacked a hole in the roof for ventilation.
Records says crews had the fire under control within ten minutes.
There were five people inside the house at the time, two adults and three children. No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross is assisting the family. The house has been condemned by Salisbury Neighborhood Services.
