Family dog dies during fire caused by space heater in Crisfield

A house fire in Crisfield, that took the life of a family pet, has been ruled as accidental.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire started around 10:00 PM in the living room of the Franklin Street home. After a passerby discovered the fire, 20 firefighters from Crisfield, Marion, and Princess Anne Fire Departments responded to the two alarm blaze, and had it under control within two hours.

Investigators say they have ruled the flames as accidental, after finding that they were caused by an electrical heater too close to combustibles.

No human injuries were reported, but the family’s dog died in the blaze. Damages are estimates to total $125,000.
