DSU Upsets Howard, Advances To Semi’s

The Delaware State University men’s basketball team extended their season Thursday night with a 65-60 upset win over Howard. The Hornets will now face top seeded North Carolina Central Friday night.

The teams would exchange buckets early on as neither would be able to open up much of a lead. Tyshawn Bell’s hot hand from the outside, combined with Todd Hughes providing a lift would help the Hornets to a 1 point lead at the break. The Bison though would find their stride in the second half, and eventually open up a comfortable 8 point lead. That’s when the Hornets would dig deep and find their answer.

Hughes would connect on a three in the corner with under 2 minutes left to tie the game, then follow it with another 3 the next possession to take the lead. It would be close down the stretch but the Hornets would come up with just enough stops to force the Bison to start to foul, and DSU would hit their free throws down the stretch.

Hughes  would finish the game with 19 points to go along with 5 rebounds, while Bell added 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and Amere May finished with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
