Delmarva Power offering free trees to customers

Are you looking to spruce up your landscape, and save money? Well, a local power company may have just the answer.

Delmarva Power is offering customers free trees, in an attempt to save them money and energy. Customers can reserve trees, for free, through a program with the Arbor Day Foundation. Officials say that by planting the trees in strategic locations, you can conserve energy and reduce your energy bills.

There are apparently 1,500 trees up for grabs, including American beech, bald cypress, river birch, sugar maple and white dogwoods. The program, in its fifth year, is offering two to four foot tall specimens.

To reserve trees, customers can visit the Arbor Day website, or call 1-855-670-2772, where they can reserve up to two trees per household. On the website, customers will use a tool to help you find the best place to plant their trees, in order to save the most money. Customers can also see how much they’ll save per year with the addition of the trees to their property.

“Our Energy-Saving Trees program is another way that Delmarva Power is committed to helping our customers continue to conserve energy as well as improve the environment,” said Gary Stockbridge, Delmarva Power region president. “By strategically planting the right trees in the right places, we help maintain a balance between the aesthetics of the tree canopy and the reliability of the electric distribution system while also offering our customers energy reductions.”

Trees will be delivered to the customer’s home at the ideal time for planting, but the customer is responsible for planting them themselves.
