Del. state trooper shoots, kills suspect in burglary

A Delaware State Trooper shot and killed a 35-year-old man, and the trooper was injured after responding to a burglary in Claymont.

Delaware State Police say the trooper responded to a Rite Aid store about 1:30 a.m. Sunday for a burglary alarm. The trooper saw a vehicle at the business and a suspect leaving the rear door.

Police say the suspect tried to flee with the trooper at his open driver’s side door. Investigators say the suspect dragged the trooper while driving away. The trooper fired his weapon, striking the suspect.

The trooper provided first aid, and the man was airlifted to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the trooper suffered lacerations and bruises. The trooper is a 16-year veteran of the Delaware State Police.
