Code Purple declared in Delaware

Because of the cold temperatures, the State of Delaware has declared Code Purple to help the folks without a warm place to find shelter. Governor Jack Markell says sites across the First State have been set up to support people who are homeless throughout the long winter season. Code Purple sites use volunteers to manage operations and the activation and implementation varies by county and site.

On Thursday evening 47 ABC visited the “ACE Peer Center” in Seaford, Delaware where program director Jim Martin says when it comes to bad weather, the ACE Center tends to see an increase in those seeking assistance. According to Martin, following the winter storm, they were almost full, offering shelter to 45 people.
Martin told 47 ABC, “There are people who kind of get through some how out there but when its this cold and nasty out we do see ten to fifteen more folks then normal.”

Martin also says the ACE Center always welcomes new individuals seeking shelter. If you or somebody you know needs help, you can contact the center at 302-628-3016.
