Bethel traffic stop leads to gun and drug arrest

A Laurel man was arrested after a traffic stop led investigators to find him in possession of a gun, weapons and drugs.

Police say a trooper was on a routine patrol on Bethel Road, west of Woodland Ferry Road, in Bethel around 1:20 p.m. Friday when a white Jeep with a loud muffler was spotted traveling eastbound.  We’re told the trooper began to follow the vehicle and as they reached the intersection of Woodland Ferry Road, the driver of the Jeep made a sudden U-turn in the middle of the intersection.

Police eventually conducted a traffic stop on Laurel man Garrett Hill, 21. During the stop, the trooper reportedly observed several knives inside of the vehicle as well as inside of Hill’s wallet as he was retrieving his identification. Hill was then asked to exit the vehicle and during the pat-down search, police found two more knives.

Authorities say a fully loaded SAR 9mm handgun was also found in between the driver’s seat and center console of the car. The trooper also found a digital scale, 6.5 grams of marijuana, and rolling papers inside of the vehicle’s center console.

Hill was arrested and transported to Troop 5 in Bridgeville, where he was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of Marijuana, two counts of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Improper Turning of a Vehicle within an Intersection.

He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and released on $6050.00 unsecured bail.
