As Mikulski leaves office, lawmakers reflect on her career

It’s only been two days since Senator Barbara Mikulski, the longest serving woman in Congress, announced her retirement.
47ABC caught up with one Maryland lawmaker to see how Senator Mikulski influenced his career.
District 38 State Senator Jim Mathias described Senator Mikulski as “fabulous” to 47ABC. He says he remembers Mikulski back when he was the mayor of Ocean City. He says she stood on the beach instilling confidence in people to invest in the city. Senator Mathias believes because of that, the city has seen so many positive results.
District 38 Senator Jim Mathias says, “I am deeply appreciative. She has been and will continue to be a true inspiration. When I look forward to who comes to succeed her, we’re looking for that same strength, that same determination. When you sit down with senator Mikulski you know exactly where she stands. That’s what important for the people of the eastern shore and Maryland.”
Senator Mikulski will be leaving office once her term ends in 2017.
