VDOT driver injured by tractor trailer while trying to assist in 3 vehicle crash

A tractor trailer driver is facing charges, after reportedly hitting a VDOT truck that stopped to lend a hand to a stranded driver.
Virginia State Police say around 3:55 AM on Thursday Troopers responded to southbound Route 13, in Melfa, for reports of a three vehicle accident, near Tammy & Johnny’s. According to the report, one of the vehicles that was hit, went across the median, and ended up in the northbound lanes of traffic. There were apparently no injuries reported.
A Virginia Department of Transportation truck then stopped in the northbound lanes, to help until the vehicle was removed. Police say just before 4:20 AM a 2007 International tractor trailer was driving southbound on Route 13, when it drifted out of its lane, ran into the median, overturned, and hit the VDOT truck in the northbound lanes.
The VDOT driver apparently suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer, Marvin Durnell, was then charged with failure to maintain lane.
