UPDATE: Princess Anne house fire cause still under investigation

A Princess Anne homeowner is mourning the loss of three pets, after fire swept through their home on Friday afternoon.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the fire at the two story Beechwood Street home was called in by a neighbor, around 1:50 PM. Twenty five fire fighters from Princess Anne, Deal Island, Mt. Vernon, and Fruitland Fire Departments responded, and had the one alarm blaze under control in an hour.

Officials say the flames started in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation. There were no injuries reported, but one cat, one dog, and one bird died in the fire.

Damages are estimated to total $225,000.
