accused murderer paul tatem. he has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges — stemming from the murder of 72-year-old donald mariner last april. three days total were set aside for this trial — and this third day has been a long one already. 47 abc’s michelle mackonochie has been in wicomico county circuit court — and just stepped outside the courtroom with an update for us. michelle? david — day three of this trial started more than 12 hours ago — and right now here’s where things stand. both the state and the defense have rested their cases and presented their closing arguments. jurors are deliberating and have been for about minutes now. much of this trial centered around paul tatem — the accused — and his ex-girlfriend — angel brown. the major development today — was that his ex-girlfriend did testify — however tatem himself never did take the stand. brown testified that they were still living together on and off the night donald mariner was killed last april. and she says that specific night — tatem admitted to her that he went to a house to tie up an elderly man — and ended up beating up his housemate — not knowing he was there. but that’s information tatem reportedly told police he got from a news report he had heard after the home invasion. a key piece of information to note here — yesterday a forensic technician testified that d-n-a found on a key used to get into mariner’s house — was a match for angel brown. today in court — brown repeatedly said she did not know how her d-n-a got there. since the beginning of the trial — tatem’s defense has tried to argue — that brown is trying to frame tatem. now again — the jury is still deliberating — but we are expecting a verdict tonight. for now — we’re live in salisbury — michelle mackonochie 47 abc. now to a major update in the mortgage fraud case — against salisbury
