UPDATE: Fire rips through home in Parsonsburg
At around 9:00 PM Thursday evening 47 ABC was made aware of a house fire on Powell School Road in Parsonsburg.
After speaking with the mother of the homeowner, Bonnie Hastings, she told 47 ABC that no one was home at the time of the fire except for the pets, 2 cats and 1 dog, who all sadly perished in the flames.
American red cross was also on the scene assisting the victims. Hastings tells us she asked her son if anything was left on and he told her the furnace was the only thing that was on in the house.
Hastings also told 47 ABC, “They have no clothes, no food, they have nothing now, no place to stay and it’s a big loss.”
UPDATE: The address was originally thought to be Powellville, but the State Fire Marshal’s Office says it is actually Parsonsburg.
Investigators say they have also ruled the blaze as accidental, caused by the home’s oil fired furnace. The flames apparently started shortly after 8:00 PM, on the first floor, in the kitchen pantry.
The blaze took 35 firefighters from five area departments, an hour to control. Damages are estimated at $150,000.
