UPDATE: Ballistic vest wearing fugitive convicted in Wicomico County

A Salisbury man has been convicted on drug and gun charges, after leading Police on a chase through Wicomico County back in September.
On Thursday, a Wicomico County jury convicted 38-year-old Deshaun Darling of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm with a nexus to a drug trafficking crime, transport a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, illegal possession of a regulated firearm, wear, carry, transporting a handgun, obliterating serial number on firearm, and wearing or possessing bulletproof body armor during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime.
The charges stem from a September 4th, 2014 incident when the Maryland State Police Gang Task Force attempted to stop the van that Darling, a wanted fugitive, was driving. As Officers approached the vehicle Darling sped way, leading Police on a twenty minute pursuit through Salisbury, before finally stopping in a parking lot on Route 13. Darling, who was wearing a bullet proof vest and had a .40 caliber handgun next to his seat, was then taken into custody. Inside the van, investigators found 17.5 grams of cocaine, a digital scale, and over $1,600 cash. Later, more evidence was found at his home in the county.
A pre-sentencing investigation will be completed before Darling will know his fate. At this time his bond has been revoked, and he will remain behind bars at the Wicomico County Detention Center until sentencing. Darling has previous convictions in Dorchester County for gun charges, and in Kent County, Delaware for drug distribution charges.
