Sussex County Couples wed on Valentine’s Day

Roughly six million people get engaged on Valentine’s Day. However, nine couples in Sussex County took it one step further, and tied the knot.

Christopher Gordon, one of the grooms says, “Why not?”

John Brady, the Clerk of the Peace says, “It’s our super bowl, we have it positioned right between the real Super Bowl and Nascar week.”

Getting hitched in an administration building next to a courthouse may sound as romantic as a shoelace, but to Brady, it doesn’t matter where you tie the knot. He believes love is automatically romantic, especially on Valentine’s Day.

Brady goes on, “It’s just a happy day for love.”

For 2015’s Valentine’s Day, Brady and his staff performed nine weddings. The ceremonies were held in thirty minute increments. The staff worked to keep each ceremony under eight minutes to fit all the couples in for the popular date.

Colleen Gordon one of the brides says, “It’s the most romantic day of the year. I thought it would be the perfect gift. He won’t ever forget my anniversary.”

Brady agrees with Gordon. This is his third time administering Valentine’s Day weddings in Sussex County. However, in his career, he’s done more than 700 weddings.

Brady continues, “I point out here’s your wedding date on here, don’t screw it up. Look at it about a year from now to make sure you have all the proper plans in place to celebrate that anniversary.”

The Diaz’s say they won’t forget. Even though they’ve only been dating for a couple months, they’re looking forward to the days ahead.

Veronica Sandoval, whose new last name is now Diaz says, “Being together for a long time and being happy.”
