Sussex Central Girls Coast To Henlopen Title
The Sussex Central High School girl’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never looked back, downing Milford in the Henlopen Championship, 74-32. The title is the first for Sussex Central since 2005.
The first quarter was all Golden Knights, taking a 24-4 advantage through the first eight minutes. In the second quarter, the Bucs slowed down Sussex Central offense, limiting them to just 13 points, but on their side of the ball could only manage to put in 11, trailing 37-15. A 24-point third quarter by the Knights put the game away, as Sussex Central hoisted the trophy for the first time in a decade.
Jasmine Hudson and Taylor Pritchett paced the Golden Knight offense with 21 and 19 points, respectively. Kala Fluitt led the Bucs with 11 points for the game.
Both teams get set for the state tournament, as Sussex Central received a first-round by as the No. 6 seed. Milford earned a No. 14 seed and will take on No. 19 William Penn on Tuesday, March 3 at 7 p.m., on its home court.
