SU Men’s Basketball Advances To The CAC Championship Game
Salisbury University men’s basketball hit the floor Thursday night taking on the St. Mary Washington Eagles in the Capital Athletics Conference tournament semi-finals. This game brought out the biggest crowd of the season to see the men’s team look to notch another win and head into the CAC finals.
The Sea Gulls came out firing three’s as they normally do leading to big points early in the game. Wyatt Smith helped SU take the early lead knocking down 6-6 from the field in the first half alone – one of those coming from behind the arc. Smith led the Gulls with 13 points in the first half – he was on fire and got subbed out periodically throughout the first half. Kyle Savercool put up 8 points with a set of triples.
The Gulls lead 34-24 at half time, and continued to lead throughout the second half. With just ten minutes left in the game, SU had a 46-38 lead, but Mary Washington began to chip away at the Gulls lead. About one minute later, the Eagles were back within 4 points and remained in a close range, but SU would not let the game go.
The Sea Gulls finish out the game strong and get the win, 59-52, to advance to the CAC tournament championship game on Saturday against Christopher Newport – a team the Gulls have already beaten twice this season.
